ROUND 3 WRAP-UP: SPYGLASS HILL (FRONT NINE)
POINTS STANDINGS: http://www.citylinksgolf.com/ageas-corporate-golf-league.html
FEATURED MATCH: TALENT2 VS THE BIG DIVOTS
Talent2′s tenacious twosome once again proved they’re here to put their lives on the line for their company in the War on Wyndham, shooting 30 to match a resurgent Big Divots, who deployed their big drives and backspin to bounceback in a big way (including two eagles) from last weeks performance. Once again, both teams let the count-back talk to the hand, and decided that a sudden-death playoff was the only fitting way to settle this brobdingnagian battle. The Big Divots birdied the playoff hole, emerged victorious and took the bonus point back to their barracks before planning an assault on next weeks course -The Belfry.
MATCH 2: HSBC VS BARCLAYS CAPITAL
Barclays Capital, a Blackhawk down, went down to what is looking like a very formidable HSBC team. In a coincidental twist, Barclays Capital played army golf around the greens whilst HSBC’s special forces (armed with deft touch around the greens and pin-seeking iron shots) showed no mercy to the wounded, shooting 32, good enough for 3rd last night and overall.
MATCH 3: AGEAS 1 VS THE HENLEY GROUP
League leaders The Henley Group again proved their golfing might, defeating a not-so-bad-themselves Ageas 1 Team. The Henley Group has a very organised and much better looking version of Stormin Norman who gathers intelligence about the opposition before carefully selecting her boys to go to the front line. This, combined with a not-so carefully selected ratio of rations to beer, could prove to be the winning formula.
MATCH 4: HK GOLFER VS AGEAS 2
HK Golfer again played consistently on a very tough Spyglass Hill course but for the third straight week were outgunned by some heavy artillery in the form of Ageas 2. Just like Tiger though, they’re not far off and are bound to mount an all out attack over the coming weeks. Although Ageas 2 sit at the bottom of the table, as we’ve seen it only takes one good performance for a team to vault themselves into contention and the points spread means anything can still happen so don’t expect any white flags to be waved until the final week.
Next Week: Across the pond to The Belfry and a wrap-up with a lot less gratuitous war references.

FEATURED MATCH: THE HENLEY GROUP VS TALENT2
The Henley Group stormed to the top of the table with a riveting sudden-death playoff victory and the bonus point over Talent2. With both teams finishing on 1-under after 9 holes, the teams agreed that a count-back wouldn’t be appropriate after their epic encounter and decided to go to sudden-death. At one stage The Henley Group got it to 6-under par, however, down the stretch there was a few “San Miguel slices” which enabled the talented Talent2 team to fight back and force the playoff (which ironically saw quite a few “Mission Hills hooks” into the Pacific)
MATCH 2: HSBC VS HK GOLFER
In some of the best golf of the night, HSBC reversed last weeks performance, shooting 29 and gaining the maximum 9 points. The scores were even after 8 holes and only a crowd-pleasing birdie on the last gave them the bonus point over solid performing HK Golfer, who also played some great golf to shoot 30 and have been a bit unlucky not to gain a bonus point having come up against two teams who shot 29 both weeks.
MATCH 3: AGEAS 1 VS AGEAS 2
After last weeks best score, the Ageas 1 team was one man down and in this Fourball Best Ball format, one man makes a big difference and the Ageas 2 team took home the bonus point. Ageas 2 played steady golf all night long with 7 pars, a birdie and one bogey to finish at even par for the night. Ageas 1 are now T4 with HSBC and HK Golfer, but there’s plenty of golf to be played and as we saw, teams can easily make their way to the top (and bottom!) of the table during the course of just one night.
MATCH 4: BIG DIVOTS VS BARCLAYS CAPITAL
The Big Divots must still have had Rory McIlroy’s Masters Meltdown on their minds as the usually dynamic duo didn’t play to their usual standard and were denied the bonus point by two very strong Barclays Capital substitutes who shoot 30, good enough for 2nd place this week, and overall.

Course: Kapalua Bay Front 9.
Round Summary:
Match 1: Ageas 1 Vs HK Golfer
Ageas Team 1 took home full points with their 6 under Par and 1 bonus point for defeating HK Golfer, who’s low handicaps make it a little more challenging for them to shoot low scores. Still, there 34 was a consistent start to their league bid and their experience of the some of the most famous courses in golf might pay off in the long-term!
Match 2: Ageas 2 Vs Talent2
Talent2 finished birdie, birdie, birdie, eagle to shoot 31 and finish third on the points table. Ageas Team 2′s even Par 35 is a steady start for them and with some tougher courses to play, they, like every team, will still have lots of chances to play themselves to the top.
Match 3: The Henley Group Vs Barclays Capital
With some of the best golf of the night, The Henley Group had a titanic struggle against Barclays Capital with The Henley Group taking the bonus point with a solid 30. Barclays Capital 2-under par was a promising start though and they’ll be looking to continue their solid play into next weeks Pebble Beach round
Match 4: Big Divots Vs HSBC
If not for the 9 on the first hole, HSBC would have been right in the mix. The Big Divots didnt take too many big divots on their way to a steady 34 but take the bonus point (awarded for defeating the opposing team on the night) and are T5 with HK Golfer.
Next weeks round 2 will be played at Pebble Beach so we expect the scores to be a little higher.
Stay tuned for all the results!
