Each month we give away a three month membership at City Links just for spotting yourself in a photo. If you see yourself in the below photo please email us to check you’re the first poser. If you are, claim your three month membership at City Links.
Each month Ronnie “Hit The Rim” Hard answers your questions on golf.
July 2011′s question comes from Jessica Alba-Tross, Golf Enthusiast and City Links fan:
Q. Dear Ronnie, I’m looking at buying a set of golf clubs, where’s the best place in Hong Kong to buy golf equipment?
A. Dear Jessica, was your father a thief because I’m like, totally like sure he stole all the stars from the sky and put them in your eyes. But I digress, City Links has some great deals on TaylorMade golf equipment, just call or email us and ask for the Pro who’ll be able to give you some advice on what to buy and also give you some low low prices on the best brand in golf!
XOXO
Ronnie
June 2011′s question comes from Jimmy Cartwheel, avid beginner golfer and City Links fan:
Q. Dear Ronnie, I’ve just started playing golf and found City Links to be A-Okay when it comes to practicing my golf swing. My coach says I’m ready for the golf course. How can I get a handicap card?
A. Dear Jimmy, Get in the Hole. It just so happens that City Links has recently formed a golf society and you can now obtain an official HKGA (Hong Kong Golf Association) Handicap by becoming a member of the City Links Golf Society. Not only can you get a handicap, but play in tournaments, meet other golfers like yourself, but get tons of special privileges at City Links. For more information and to sign up for the City Links Golf Society, you can email info@citylinksgolf.com.
Firstly thanks again to all the sponsors:
Ageas for their Title Sponsorship, without them, the league wouldn’t have happened. They also do a great job of supporting golf in Hong Kong in general.
Golfasian.com – If you’re ever going to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bali or Cambodia for golf, please contact Mark Siegel at mark@golfasian.com, he’s turned this small company into one of Asia’s largest golf tour operators and knows all the courses, hotels, and local attractions inside out.
San Miguel for the beer, without which, shots wouldn’t have seemed nearly so good, or so bad, depending on how much you drank.
Mission Hills – for first and second prizes and all their support throughout the league. If you haven’t got an invite already, we’ll be holding a free wine tasting (and golf) with Mission Hills tomorrow (Thursday). Please contact Celia, copied in here if you’d like to attend.
HK Golfer Magazine for providing coverage of the league. This is by far Hong Kong’s best golf magazine and a great platform to get your business in front of every registered golfer in Hong Kong.
The Henley Group for providing the final round gift packs.
And now, the final round wrapup – (80′s Classics version)

TALENT2 (32) Vs HK GOLFER (37)
It took them a while to find their voice this week, but when they needed it most down the stretch, Talent2 showed their softer side with Air Supplies “Making Love Out of Nothing at All”, making it their own and changing up the lyrics to “Making Birdies Out of Bunkers and All”. Talent2′s end of night encore was Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”, but in a surprising twist, when asked how they felt after winning Hong Kong’s first corporate golf league, Talent2 stalwart “The Gweilo Shark” responded… “Only the thought of a bit of a pash with Belinda Carlisle is more satisfying”. But don’t quote me on that one. HK Golfer finally got to voice some of their frustrations from coming up against the winning team week after week and turned Cyndi Laupers “Time After Time” into a gangsta rap symphony.
THE HENLEY GROUP (35) VS THE BIG DIVOTS (33)
The Henley Group came against a head-banging Big Divots, who, despite, or perhaps in spite of not being able to win overall, decided to rock out with Twisted Sisters “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, which apparently did the trick as they defeated The Henley Group on the final hole. When asked about the heartbreaking final hole, The Henley Group didn’t hold back, declaring “I can think of only moment in history that accurately describes how we feel – when Mavericks wingman Goose plunges into the ocean to his death in Top Gun.” This put a dampener on their scheduled performance of Kenny Loggins “Highway To The Danger Zone”, and instead our Marketing Manager Celia lip synced Toni Basil’s one hit wonder “Mickey” to The Big Divots, who were so fine they blew her mind despite finishing just out of the top three.
AGEAS 2 (35) VS BARCLAYS CAPITAL (DNP)
Barclays Capital have been singing Tom Petty’s “Don’t Come Around Here No More” since round 1, and this week dedicated Simply Red’s “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” to yours truly for still asking every week if they were available. Their abscence let Ageas 2 put on a 1 hour and 54 minute solo anthem version of The Pet Shop Boys “What have I Done To Deserve This”, in reference to not having a proper team to play.
HSBC (34) VS AGEAS 1 (36)
HSBC took a risk that paid off with their reggae version of Wham’s “Careless Whisper”, which was fitting because they snuck into 3rd place without much fanfare. Ageas 1, out of contention in the golf, but perhaps knowing this would be an 80′s celebration, raised the roof and belted out Chaka Khan’s “I Feel For You”, which went down so well they quickly transitioned into Eddy Grants “Electric Avenue”. We have no idea why, but no foray into the 80′s would be complete without mention of those two classics.

Latest Standings: http://www.citylinksgolf.com/ageas-corporate-golf-league.html
AGEAS 2 VS BIG DIVOTS
Both Ageas teams were one player down and after a quick group huddle decided that they would sacrifice Ageas 2 and field a full strength (two-man) team against league-leading Talent2. This meant the Big Divots had a clear run at the bonus point but still needed to play some golf, which they did, on their way to a steady 1-under. The might have feared better with some direct competition and only finding out about Jennifer Anniston’s dog “Norman” croaking via Twitter was more disappointing than no team to play.
AGEAS 1 VS TALENT2
If we had to compare this match to hot trends on the Internet, it would definitely be Pippa Middleton’s bum and not just because we were all looking forward to seeing it. Lucky for us we don’t, so let’s just do the review. Ageas’ strategy almost paid off and this match went down to the wire, with Talent2′s par on the last hole good enough for a 1-stroke victory and the much needed bonus point, which put them in a tie for the lead overall.
HK GOLFER VS BARCAP
Barclays Capital continued their Academy Award winning impersonation of Chuck Norris and remained MIA, allowing HK Golfer to pick up the bonus point on their way to shooting a rather handy 32, moving them into third overall and a chance at victory.
THE HENLEY GROUP VS HSBC
War on Wyndham doesn’t get much bloodier than this, and The Henley Group brought the hurt by shooting a bobby dazzler of a 28 to HSBC’s solid 33. The Henley Group’s 8-under par included 3 eagles and 3 birdies and gives them a share of the lead going into the final round. Overall It was a big day for The Henley Group who’s only problems came from deciding what made them more happy; scoring the maximum 9 points, or Donald Trump not running for President.

Eight leading firms have come out swinging in the Ageas Corporate Golf League – Hong Kong’s first downtown inter-companies golf competition.
The exciting new tournament is being staged at City Links Golf Lounge, the state-of-the-art indoor golf centre in The Centrium, Wyndham Street – just a chip shot away from Central’s bustling business district.
The two-player teams are competing over seven weeks for the “War on Wyndham” trophy, a HK$20,000 donation to a charity of their choice and a golf weekend for two to Bangkok from Golfasian.com, including two rounds of golf, two nights accommodation and round-trip airfares.
“We have a particular interest in golf so we were very excited and enthusiastic when we heard about the chance to be associated with Hong Kong’s first-ever indoor corporate golf league,” said Angela Yam, Head of Branding, Marketing and Communication, Ageas Insurance Company (Asia) Limited.
“We believe it will become one of the city’s premier golf events. It ties in with our interest in helping charities, too, because we have agreed to make a substantial donation of HK$20,000 to any recipient chosen by the champion team.”
Ageas already sponsors the Hong Kong PGA Championship – the territory’s flagship tournament for locally-based professionals which this year was won by French golfing icon Jean Van de Velde.
In addition, the company supports many other sports and charity events such as FCBEscola – the soccer school run by Spanish giants Barcelona – the Matilda Sedan Chair Race and the Oxfam Trailwalker.
The Ageas Corporate Golf League, which is being staged from 12 April to 24 May, is being played on Full Swing Golf’s E6 golf simulation software using the Fourball Better Ball format.
The teams are playing seven of the world’s most famous courses – the “home of golf” St Andrews, Pebble Beach, Kapalua Plantation, Spyglass Hill, The Belfry, Valderrama and Torrey Pines.
Entry is HK$7,000 per team and includes seven competition rounds and open bar and finger food each week. Team substitutes are being encouraged to come along and support their colleagues, making for an intense atmosphere as the players ditch their suit jackets, loosen their ties and go in search of golfing glory.
“We know Hong Kong executives are passionate about their golf and take the game very seriously,” said Rajah Chaudhry, Director, City Links Golf Lounge. “So a downtown corporate golf competition both appeals to their competitive instincts and fits in perfectly with their busy schedules.
“We think the Ageas Corporate Golf League is going to be a big hit and has the potential to become a major annual sports tournament among Hong Kong’s top companies. We are especially grateful to Ageas for their generous support and we look forward to what promises to be a high-profile, competitive and, most important of all, fun event for everyone involved. May the best team win!”
Companies interested in playing in the Ageas Corporate Golf League should contact Kim Inglis, Director of Golf, City Links Golf Lounge, on 2522 6366 or send an email to kim.inglis@citylinksgolf.com.

Hola
Week 5 Results Here: http://www.citylinksgolf.com/ageas-corporate-golf-league.html
Last night saw a few teams away, we presume too distraught over one of golf’s greats, Seve Ballesteros, passing away over the weekend. Despite this, there was some sensational golf played on Spain’s Valderrama and the last two weeks are going to be must-plays for any team wanting a chance at victory.
FEATURED MATCH: TALENT2 VS HSBC
In what was the golf equivalent of the running of the bulls, the fearless Talent2 stood their ground against a rampaging HSBC. Talent2 strung together yet another impressive round, with their 32 good enough for the bonus point, third place on the night, and they maintain the lead at the top of the table. Scores were tied after 15 holes but on the 16th the HSBC boys got into some trouble and not even Enrique Iglesias’ “Hero” could save them from a triple bogey that left them feeling a bit trampled and badly in need of some Paella. Still, they remain in good position and next weeks match will be huge against The Henley Group.
MATCH 1: HK GOLFER VS THE BIG DIVOTS
HK Golfer and BIg Divots were starting to develop a nice little bromance so this match was going to be interesting. Unfortunately, the Big Divots hold their hearts on their golf polo sleeves, and were unable to get themselves off their couches, away from Seve highlights videos and tissues, and couldn’t make it…meanwhile the playa’s at HK Golfer showed no sympathy and were Andalucia awesome, shooting 30 in about as many minutes. They’ve now got a cut-down 3-iron resting on the War on Wyndham Trophy, and only 3.5 points separate them (in 4th) from the league leaders.
MATCH 2: THE HENLEY GROUP VS AGEAS 2
Even without opposition, the Henley Group brought back two of their top guns, one with a Pablo Picasso punch shot, and the other with a Don Juan downswing. The Don Juan fella tried in vain throughout the round to find a car park to make a heroic recovery from, but instead settled for an eagle on the final hole, which put The Henley Group back into second overall and one-step closer to the War on Wyndham trophy.
MATCH 3: AGEAS 1 VS BARCLAYS CAPITAL
Both Barclays Capital and Ageas 1 forgot to wake from a siesta so shared 10 points, along with Ageas 2 and The Big Divots. Advice from Randy Jackson would be “so listen dawg, you gotta be in it to win it”.
Next Week: Back Nine at St Andrews
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Next Weeks Matches Move To WEDNESDAY 11TH MAY. Only 3 rounds to go so make sure you field your strongest team!
Updated Results: http://www.citylinksgolf.com/ageas-corporate-golf-league.html
MATCH 1: AGEAS 2 VS HSBC
HSBC brought in the big guns and continued their solid play shooting a couple under on what proved to be the leagues toughest course so far. With an overall scoring average of 38.9, The Belfry produced some Augusta-like moans and roars, including a net hole in one, from the now dangerous looking HSBC team. Ageas 2 will need at least one big week to get them back in contention.
MATCH 2: BARCLAYS CAPITAL VS TALENT2
Talent2′s tantalising tempo’s and tour-calibre tee shots were again too much for Barclays Capital, who played the last three holes in 3-over but did well not to throw a Tiger tandrum in the midst of such agonising adversity. Speaking of 3-over, the cats at Talent2 were heading for the round of the night until an untimely triple bogey on the 8th undid their impressive birdie-eagle-birdie stretch. Still, their performance was good enough to take them to the top of the table.
MATCH 3: AGEAS 1 VS BIG DIVOTS
The BIg Divots did their name absolutely no justice and pured shot after shot in defeating Ageas 2. Their 33 was the low round of the night and good enough for T2 on the overall points table. After their league opening 29 and maximum 9 point display, the Ageas 1 team will need to recapture some of that magic, or drink more San Miguel beer to get back in the mix.
MATCH 4: HK GOLFER VS THE HENLEY GROUP
HK Golfer were finally rewarded for some decent golf, shooting a nice little 34, also including a net hole in one, and in the process dethroning The Henley Group from their league leader title. With just 2 points separating the top 4 teams, and less than a victory + bonus point separating the top 6 teams, the next three weeks are guaranteed to be way more exciting than Martin Kaymer.
